Volunteer Emails

There is still time to sponsor a rider or join a team for our 30k club bikeathon which will take place at the Mission Greenway on June 19^th.  Funds raised will help us with transitional housing.  See www.30kclubbikeathon.com for more details. I am also looking for a few more volunteers to man a station, pass out juice and cheer the riders on.

I was looking at the Helping Hands Castanet ads (marketplace under thrift stores) yesterday and, even if you are not in the market to buy anything, you should check them out for your dose of daily humor. Heidi, the store manager’s assistant, has a way with words!! 

Thanks to Bill Frame from Frame Construction for allowing us to salvage materials from a house they are tearing down. So far we have got cupboards, tile, paneling and trim which we have put to good use around the hostel as well as appliances to sell in the store. 

If you have visitors this summer who would be interested an eye opening  “Mission experience” give me a call and I will give them a 3 hour shift in our kitchen. This is a great way to spread the word about what we do and at the same time help out while our regular volunteers are on vacation.

Good-bye for now to our practicum students from OC, Phaidra and Charlene. They have been a help and a blessing to Kelowna’s Gospel Mission. Both Phaidra and Charlene have had such a positive experience that they both will be returning as volunteers.
