Musings from the Mission

I recently had the privilege of accompanying my eight year old grand-daughter to the “Nutcracker” put on by Ballet Kelowna. She was mesmerized, and I am not sure which I enjoyed more; watching an amazing production, or watching her in her fascination and pleasure. But as I thought back on that evening, another thought struck me. I am so blessed!

I had a dream….one miserable night I walked through the pitch dark forest, frozen, hungry and lost, when eventually I came to a clearing where a light shone way off in the distance. As it guided my freezing body this light grew in brightness and just the sight of it alone warmed me up a touch.

At the age of eighteen I was arrested for aggravated armed robbery and was facing four years in federal prison. At the same time, I had just returned from fighting in the Canadian championships in Judo, and I was losing my battle of living a double life. Now I enjoy life and life is more abundant. On the way home, my eight year old grand daughter pipes up and asks, “Grandpa, what are your five favorite words?”
