About 5 years ago some of the staff at Kelowna’s Gospel Mission formed a social committee. The idea of the social committee was to get together with the staff to do some fun events and also to put on some small fund raisers for various projects around the Mission.
In 2005 we had our first “Soup, Sandwich and Silent Auction”. We were hoping to raise $1,000 to buy a blind that we could roll up and down for our kitchen/dining room counter (does anyone remember the old wooden ones?) The staff asked local merchants to donate items for the auctions and we sold tickets to our staff, family and friends. In the end we exceeded our expectations and raised about $2,000.
Last Sunday we had our 5th annual “Soup, Sandwich and Silent Auction”. As well as about 40 silent auction items, Randy, our executive director, held a live auction. Randy’s superior auctions skills garnered $50 for a James Dean poster! Way to go Randy! And it’s all for a good cause.
We exceeded this year’s goal of $2,000 by nearly $1,000. Good thing too, as our project this year is to renovate our men’s dorm bathrooms…a place that I dare not enter -lol.
So thanks to all who participated and we’ll see you next year at our 6th annual Soup, Sandwich and Silent Auction!
