What's your road marker?

“WOW………”  Weren’t the Vancouver Olympic Games awesome to watch.  For me, personally, it was very emotional.  Loved it!

So what’s the deal with the smiling pile of rocks used as the logo for the Vancouver games?

It is named ILANAAQ, which is the Inuktitut word for Friend.  The logo is a contemporary interpretation of the Inukshuk.

For centuries, the Inuit people of Canada’s Arctic stacked rock in a human form to create this Inukshuk as a guidepost that provided direction.  The stones are secured through balance.  Each one supports the one above it and is supported by the one below it.  Together, the stones achieve strength through unity.  This effect signifies a group that can achieve greater success with cooperation and team effort rather than individually.  It has grown to become a symbol of hope, an expression of hospitality, and the importance of friendship and reminds us of our dependence on one another.
