It's no 'trick', Kelowna's Gospel Mission Community Dental Clinic has surpassed the million dollar mark in 'treat'ment to people in need.
Since opening in June of 2004 as a twice monthly clinic, Kelowna's Gospel Mission Community Dental Clinic has grown, and has now provided over $1 million dollars worth of free dental treatment to our community.
"Nobody dreamed that when we started 6 years ago this would grow into such a vital service to our community," says Executive Director Randy Benson. "It is so satisfying and rewarding to be part of meeting such a critical and practical need. It truly improves lives."
The clinic has had over 45-hundred patient visits, and treats everyone from children to seniors.
"When you take someone who can't open their mouth, who can't function because they are in so much pain, and give them not only their smile, but their life back, it's incredibly gratifying," says Director of Dental Services, Shirley Goebel.
In 2008, the Gospel Mission Community Dental Clinic formed a partnership with UBC General Practice Residency Program which expanded the clinic, and in 2009 the clinic became full time.
Kelowna's Gospel Mission must express our sincere gratitude to our volunteers and corporate partners. Three (3) thousand hours have been volunteered by local dentists, hygienists and assistants, since the clinic opened. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in the form of equipment has been donated to the clinic.
