HARMONY HOUSE MINISTRIES
Harmony House was established by Kelowna’s Gospel Mission Society in June 1995 as a long-term recovery home for women in crisis caused by substance abuse and related issues. In September 2006, Shiloh House (another housing complex) was opened. These two homes now provide a supportive recovery program for women who have learned how to manage the issues that caused their addictive behavior.
Our Vision is to provide assistance to women who are in the process of recovering from substance abuse and guide them to wholeness through the love of Christ.
Our Mission is:
· To provide a safe, secure, non-judgmental, empowering and structured environment that supports each woman’s potential for recovery from addictions.
· To assist women in establishing independence so they can provide for their family and eventually integrate into community life as a functioning member.
We Believe:
· In the individuality of each woman and that healing evolves and futures are rebuilt through counseling and skills development.
· Our lives can be changed by the unconditional love of God as well as encouragement offered in a safe, supportive environment.
We will help facilitate transition from recovery to self-sufficiency by:
· Encouraging residents to take advantage of the tools learned in the early days of recovery.
· Helping residents develop healthy relationships.
· Assisting resident to find appropriate job training and employment.
· Providing personal and group support through weekly Bible Study, Genesis Recovery Process (a relapse prevention program structured for addictive/compulsive behaviors) and prayer.
· Working alongside other agencies to ensure all the resident’s needs are met, including community-provided counseling and programs, advocacy for appropriate government programs and private business support.
· Developing and implementing a Wellness Plan to assist in acquiring the valuable life skills required for independent living.
· Providing opportunity for a weekly exercise program.
