Position Summary

We are seeking a Cooking Coordinator to join our rapidly growing team. The primary purpose of this position is to prepare food for those experiencing homelessness and at risk of homelessness in Kelowna, working at the direction of the Kitchen Manager to ensure the food service Kitchen is an inviting and safe environment for employees, volunteers, and clients. The ideal candidate is a passionate, organized, people person who thrives in a diverse environment and loves helping those in need. 

 Key Responsibilities  

  • Maintain an excellent relationship with all residents, volunteers, and employees by building bridges of friendship wherever possible while being observant of the Policy and Procedures of KGM; 
  • Builds supportive relationships with Kitchen employees and volunteers that includes training, coaching, delegating tasks, following up on the completion of tasks while following KGM policies. 
  • Works with the Kitchen Manager (KM) to maintain a fully stocked kitchen keeping accurate inventories and complies with safety and cleanliness standards according to company policy and procedures.   
  • Responsible for various reporting functions; verifies accuracy and ensures compliance with various procedures and protocols. wherever possible while being observant of the Policies and Procedures of KGM. 
  • Plans nutritious meals in accordance with the Canadian Food Guide and the KM. 
  • Assists in the overall execution of special events involving food. 
  • Model KGM values of Compassion, Integrity, Respect, Grace-led, & Transformation; 
  • Maintain an excellent relationship with all residents, volunteers, and employees by building bridges of friendship wherever possible while being observant of the Policy and Procedures of KGM; 
  • Perform other related duties as required. 

Position Requirements  

  • Completed certification of FOODSAFE level 1 and 2;  
  • Post-secondary education (Certificate, Diploma, or Degree) in food services and/or a related field or equivalent education and experience and/or certification from a culinary school or degree in Restaurant Management is a plus; 
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive work experience in the food services industry 
  • Completion of High School Diploma as a minimum 
  • Experience doing community kitchens and must be passionate about all aspects of cooking 
  • The work schedule is Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records 
  • Ability to work well with volunteers and provide direction 
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products 
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract; 
  • This position is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector).
