Job Summary

The Caseworker provides supervision and support for clients/residents as required by Kelowna’s Gospel Mission and funding contract policies and procedures.

 Skill Set

The ideal candidate will have the following skills:

  • Ability to problem solve, Attention to detail
  • a moderate amount of keyboarding/manual record keeping, and occasionally lifting/packing clients/resident’s property/personal effects and engaging in recreational activities
  • attentive listening, observation of body language, monitoring the environment, multitasking, and reading
  • High degree of comfort in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows environment and record keeping

Conditions & Exposure to Hazards

  • work environment is typically in an office at a facility setting. The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions / isolation / work schedule affecting lifestyle / dealing with angry people, verbal abuse, and abusive people / Exposure to bodily fluids and bodily waste / Exposure to drugs and alcohol
  • the incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to: Physical attacks by others / Exposure to infectious diseases / Exposure to toxic chemicals / Exposure to bodily fluids / Sharp objects / Other potentially dangerous situations

Required Education & Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in related social services field OR depending on the program, have completed more than two (2) years of Community College (An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable).
  • One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including frontline casework experience in a social service environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows environment and record keeping
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training

 Precautionary Measures

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Universal Precautions / Immunization for Hepatitis B / Vaccination against Tuberculosis/COVID 19
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
