Position Summary

We are seeking a Director of Emergency Services (DES) to join our rapidly growing team. The Director of Emergency Services is responsible for the operation of KGM’s core programming; shelters, transitional housing and outreach. Their mandate is to care for people experiencing homelessness in Kelowna by providing effective holistic wrap around programming that is faith based, values guided and outcomes focused.

Through leading a team of managers, they are responsible for developing and implementing relevant programming, based on KGM’s philosophy of care, that leads people towards wholeness. This team member would report to the Executive Director and serve on the Senior Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement and maintain all Shelter operations, policies and logistics;

Assess gaps in service provision and develop strategies to fill gaps with programming;

Establish, compile, analyze and submit reports related to Shelter services to assess impact and value;

Participates in the planning, organization and coordination for the development and programming of services;

Assume financial responsibility of the departmental budget while consulting with the Executive Director to ensure the department operates within allocated funds;

Collaborate with the senior leadership team to evolve policy development including drafting policies, amendments, and procedures;

Delegate responsibilities and supervise a team of managers while providing coaching, guidance and motivation to drive personal development and program goals;

Modelling KGM values of Compassion, Integrity, Respect, Grace-led, & Transformation;

Maintain an excellent relationship with all residents, volunteers, and employees by building bridges of friendship wherever possible while being observant of the Policy and Procedures of KGM;

Liaise with, and develop or maintain partnerships with relevant stakeholders, funders, policy makers and vendors.

Perform other related duties as required.

Position Requirements

A diploma in social services or a related discipline or an acceptable combination of education and experience

At least 5 years of leadership and management experience;

Minimum 3 years experience working with people with mental health challenges, addiction and trauma;

Knowledgeable in affordable and supportive housing management and development, shelter services, mental health and addiction services, and community-based social services

Demonstrated ability to deal with sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy

Strong understanding of industry standards, business operations and regulatory requirements;

Specialized training and certification in mental health, addiction, counselling or trauma is an asset;

Demonstrated ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential situations with care and integrity;

Ability to forge strong, key strategic relationships and partnerships and influence at all levels

Ability to interact and collaborate with a diverse group of social service professionals and support service personnel;

Knowledgeable in program development, management, monitoring and evaluation;

Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract;

This position will require occasional evening and weekend hours, and also on call emergency response;

This position is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector).
