Position Summary  

Kelowna Gospel Mission (KGM) is a faith based non-profit organization that is committed to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and help the hurting. We are seeking a Director of Spiritual Care (DSC) to join our rapidly growing team. This position will demonstrate the powerful and transformational love of Jesus and is committed to holistic care for staff and clients. The DSC will oversee the provision of Spiritual Care to clients, residents, and staff in a culturally safe and trauma informed way. By leading a team of chaplains, volunteers and various committees, the DSC will be responsible for creating and encouraging opportunities, relationships and activities that result in a community that is healthy, thriving, and full of love. This team member would report to the Executive Director and serve as a discerning guide on the Senior Leadership Team. 

 Key Responsibilities  

  • Modelling KGM values of Compassion, Integrity, Respect, Grace-led, & Transformation; 
  • Maintain an excellent relationship with all clients, residents, volunteers, employees, and the general public by building bridges of friendship wherever possible while being observant of the Policy and Procedures of KGM; 
  • Develop and implement programs that directly focus on spiritual care, growth and development of our clients and residents; 
  • Develop and facilitate programs that encourage Spiritual and Emotional Wellness 
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of chaplains to aid in the achievement of KGM organizational goals and objectives 
  • Grant applications and reporting   
  • Recruit, vet, and train volunteers 
  • Identify best practices for Christ-centered spiritual care for clients and residents; 
  • Provide leadership and supervision to a team of Chaplains who are responsible for providing emotional and spiritual care for clients, residents and staff at the various KGM sites;  
  • Leads in supporting the culture of Christ-centered mission through speaking (e.g. senior leadership team meetings, department head meetings, faith committee meetings and writing devotionals); 
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the Trauma team – which is responsible to respond to Critical Incidents with group debriefing and follow up sessions with staff; 
  • Serve on the senior leadership team – which is responsible for guiding the organization toward its strategic goals and holding the work accountable to its core values; 
  • Assesses effectiveness and outcomes of spiritual interventions and programs with the intention of ongoing performance and quality improvement; 
  • Represents KGM to community stakeholders, specifically the faith community 
  • Participates in various KGM committees such as: Advocacy Committee, Indigenous Rising Circle, Social Squad, etc.  
  • Consults with Executive Director and prepares annual departmental budget and ensures the department operates within allocated funds. 
  • Other duties as assigned  

 

Position Requirements  

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four (4) year accredited college or university  
  • Preference given to Masters level seminary education, MDiv, MTh, or equivalent  
  • Licensed, ordained minister with a recognized church denomination or be certified by and in good standing with the Association of Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care, Canadian Association of Pastoral Practice and Education. or the Chaplains Office of Canada Corporation. 
  • Specialized training and certification in mental health/addiction/counselling or trauma 
  • Minimum 3 years experience working with people with mental health challenges, addiction and trauma.  
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential situations with care and integrity.  
  • Must have excellent teamwork skills.  
  • Embrace the conceptual framework of diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Understand the dominant issues around decolonization and reconciliation. 
  • Minimum of 3 years working in a leadership position  
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with a diverse group of social service professionals and support service personnel  
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract  
  • Ability to prioritize people and projects with wisdom and balance.  
  • Extraordinary EQ and active listening skills.
