Job Posting RESIDENT SUPPORT WORKER TEAM LEAD – SPLIT SHIFT

Note that Bay Ave operates an Overdose Prevention Site with supervised consumption. Available positions at the Bay Ave shelter: 

    • 32hr Split Friday and Saturday mornings 7am to 3:30pm / Sunday and Monday evenings 3pm to 11:30pm

 Job Summary

The RSW Team Lead provides supervision, support, coaching, and guidance to Resident Support Workers to ensure they are able to complete all their job duties effectively. Provides a safe and secure environment for residents/clients and visitors. Provides practical support to residents to reintegrate them into the community.

 Characteristic Job Duties:

  • Monitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and moral support; may include providing safe storage and recording of prescribed medications
  • Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports
  • Provides life skills training (personal hygiene, mental and physical health, communication, anger management, etc.) for clients/residents
  • Acts as client/resident advocate; acts as a positive role model
  • Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g., social services, police, parole, urgent situations)
  • Coordinates client/resident care relating to security issues; performs bed checks and room/personal searches
  • Handles the admission, orientation and evaluation of clients’/resident’s understanding of rules; ensures ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline
  • May handle finances relating to room rentals and meal tickets, and receipting of same
  • Answers the program department telephone and records/remits messages

Work Environment

  • The incumbent’s work environment is typically in an office and a program department – Shelter, Supervised Consumption Site, Treatment facilities. The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions: Dealing with angry people / Abusive people / Verbal abuse / Isolation / Work schedule affecting lifestyle
  • The incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to: Physical attacks by others / Exposure to infectious diseases / Exposure to bodily fluids / Sharp objects / Other dangerous situations

Required Education & Experience

Completed up to two (2) years of Community College. One year but less than three years of prior related experience including, frontline work in a social services setting, life skills and experience in a related field.
