Resident Support Worker Team Lead

Job Summary

The Resident Support Worker Team Lead provides supervision, support, coaching, and guidance to Resident Support Workers to ensure they are able to complete all their job duties effectively. Provides a safe and secure environment for residents/clients and volunteers, provides practical support to residents to reintegrate them into the community.

 Characteristic Job Duties

  • Monitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and moral support; may include providing safe storage and recording of prescribed medications
  • Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports
  • Provides life skills training (personal hygiene, mental and physical health, communication, anger management, etc.) for clients/residents
  • Acts as client/resident advocate; acts as positive role model
  • Liaises with referral sources and external agencies as needed (e.g., welfare, police, parole, urgent situations)
  • Coordinates client/resident care relating to security issues; performs bed checks and room/personal searches
  • Handles the admission, orientation and evaluation of clients’/resident’s understanding of rules; ensures ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline
  • May handle finances relating to room rentals and meal tickets, and receipting of same
  • Answers the program department telephone and records/remits messages

Conditions & Exposure to risk

The incumbent’s work environment is typically in an office and a program department – Shelter, Supervised Consumption Site, Treatment facilities. The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions: Isolation, dealing with angry people and verbal abuse, Abusive people, Work schedule affecting lifestyle, Exposure to bodily fluids and bodily waste, Exposure to drugs and alcohol, Physical attacks by others, Exposure to infectious diseases, Exposure to toxic chemicals, Sharp objects, Other potentially dangerous situations.

Required Education, certifications, & Experience

2 yrs community college, 1 yr frontline work in a social service setting, life skills and experience in a related field. Immunization for Hepatitis B, Vaccination against Tuberculosis, WHMIS training, current First Aid/CPR, Non-violent crisis intervention training

 Pandemic requirement

The successful candidate is required to be fully COVID vaccinated
