Director of Health Services

Kelowna Gospel Mission (KGM) is a faith based non-profit organization that is committed to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and help the hurting. KGM ministers to the whole person, spirit, soul and body by sharing Jesus with a servant’s heart. Our services include outreach, case management, emergency shelters, dental clinic, thrift store and supportive housing.

We are seeking a Director of Heath Services (DHS) to join our rapidly growing team. This role has been created in alignment with our Strategic Plan which aims to provide wrap around services at every stage of the continuum of care for people experiencing homelessness. The DHS will develop and oversee the provision of holistic health care programs for clients, residents, and patients in a culturally safe and trauma informed way across all KGM departments. The DHS will work alongside other directors and managers to lead a team of health professionals across all KGM departments including KGM Community Dental, KGM Community Shelters and KGM Women’s Community. This team member would report to the Executive Director and serve as a discerning guide on the Senior Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and launching a Dialysis program and a resident home care program;
  • Identify, develop and implement programs that directly focus on holistic heath care, growth and development of our clients and residents;
  • Provide leadership, supervision and support to a team of health care professionals across all KGM departments;
  • Coordinate with local partners to facilitate hearing, foot care, vaccine and other clinics;
  • Responsible for overseeing and ensuring the effective operation of the KGM Dental Clinic
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to evolve policy development including drafting policies, amendments, and procedures.
  • Modelling KGM values of Compassion, Integrity, Respect, Grace-led, & Transformation;
  • Maintain an excellent relationship with all clients, residents, volunteers, employees, and the general public by building bridges of friendship wherever possible while being observant of the Policy and Procedures of KGM;
  • Participate on the senior leadership team – which is responsible for guiding the organization towards its strategic goals and holding the work accountable to its core values;
  • Assesses effectiveness and outcomes of health services with the intention of ongoing performance and quality improvement;
  • Create monthly reports on program impact and other performance metrics;
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to evolve policy development including drafting policies, amendments, and procedures.
  • Assume financial responsibility of the departmental budget while consulting with the Executive Director to ensure the department operates within allocated funds
  • Create and lead a Health Cabinet that focuses on holistic health outcomes for residents
  • Establish a strong collaborative relationship with community partners to assist residents
  • Serve on the trauma team – provide mental health assessments and support for employees after traumatic events;
  • Perform other related duties as required

Position Requirements

  • A master’s degree in public health
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with people with mental health challenges, addiction and trauma.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role
  • Specialized training and certification in mental health, addiction, counselling or trauma is an asset
  • Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 (two doses) to comply with current KGM policy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential situations with care and integrity
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with a diverse group of social service professionals and support service personnel
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving abstract;
  • Extraordinary EQ and active listening skills;
  • Knowledgeable in program development, monitoring and evaluation;
  • This position is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector)
