Position Summary

The Shelter Manager (SM) is integral to guiding and inspiring the shelter team in their daily operations. Beyond day-to-day operations, this position is instrumental in leading and motivating team members toward achieving organizational goals. The SM ensures that all program services offered at the shelter are not only provided in alignment with our core values but also reflect our philosophy of care, emphasizing respect and dignity for each individual. The SM works closely with the Director of Emergency Services to align services and programs

  Key Responsibilities

  • Manage team members to achieve program objectives through the development, implementation, and monitoring of program services and activities;
  • Manage the entire employee lifecycle, from recruitment and orientation to ongoing training, performance evaluation, support, discipline, and corrective action when necessary, fostering a positive and productive work environment;
  • Develop and implement innovative programs and services to meet the diverse needs of shelter residents;
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the shelter, ensuring a non-judgmental and inclusive atmosphere that promotes dignity and respect for all residents.
  • Effectively manage and resolve conflicts among team members, fostering a cooperative and respectful work atmosphere while upholding organizational values and policies
  • Generate regular reports on shelter activities and outcomes for internal use and external stakeholders;
  • Work closely with other departments or teams to achieve cross-functional objectives.

 Position Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as social work, human services, management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a front-line shelter setting is required;
  • Minimum 1-year experience in shelter management or a related field
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Teams, and other relevant platforms, for efficient documentation, data analysis, and collaboration.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, encompassing active listening, conflict resolution, and negotiation, to build strong relationships within the team and with external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and support team members, encouraging their professional growth and maximizing their potential.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including active listening and clear, concise verbal and written communication, to facilitate effective collaboration, information sharing, and team cohesion.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • This position Is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (Vulnerable Sector)
  • Bay Ave operates an Overdose Prevention Site with supervised consumption.
